The Bunte Hände (Colourful Hands) project, run by HAW Hamburg's Centre for Migration Research and Integration Practice, provides assistance to students with a refugee background and to international students, with the aim of helping them succeed at their studies. It offers language tandems, a writing workshop, a selection of socially integrative leisure activities and a multilingual peer-to-peer programme.

Since the 2019 summer semester, students have also been able to expand their knowledge of the programming languages C, C++, Java and Ruby in various languages (Arabic, German, English). Bunte Hände also advises gifted refugees at Hamburg's high schools about study opportunities.

With the weBuddy Programme, HAW Hamburg welcomes its new international and visiting students and helps them out as they start their studies. Experienced HAW Hamburg students – so-called 'buddies' – support the first-semester students during their challenging early days in the city and at the university, making sure they experience a hospitable welcome. In the days directly before the semester starts, the International Office organises a Welcome Week with various events and a welcome dinner. There are also regular events throughout the semester, such as outings, bowling afternoons or cooking nights. We want you to feel comfortable here and for lots of new international friendships to develop.

HAWKS Racing e.V. is the HAW Hamburg's Formula Student team. The team develops and builds racing cars, entering them in the events of the Formula Student – the largest international car-construction competition for students.

Through the practical work, the HAWKS Racing club supplements students' academic studies at the university. Become a fan, partner or member. Be part of the passion – be HAWKS!

Samt-Magazin. A magazine published by the Faculty of Design at HAW Hamburg.

Samt-Magazin is a student-initiated publication. It shows semester and final projects from the fields of illustration, fashion design, textile design, costume design, and communication design at the Faculty of Design at HAW Hamburg. The name “Samt” is derived from the word “gesamt” (total) and aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the projects undertaken by the Faculty of Design.

The Hamburg RobOtter Club (RCHH) is a project for all students interested in robots. The club was started at HAW Hamburg by Cagri Erdogan and Prof. Dr. Frischgesell as part of the 2011 student funding projects. It regularly takes part in Eurobot and other international robotics contests.

Theatre is an experience that brings people together to watch people who portray people working with and against one another – an aesthetic awareness-raising element in society.

So far, the Theatre Club has tried out different types of improvisational theatre (including theatre of the oppressed and playback theatre). It would now like to try to jointly develop a theatre piece. We're looking for new members who are courageous, witty, compassionate and playful. Who want to live with intensity, be reflective on stage, be part of an intimate group, and overcome the isolation of university studies. Our acting is harmless and dangerous, sometimes lethargic, sometimes boisterous. We aren't professionals; we just act.

The Anti-Fascism Working Group is a group of students from various degree courses at HAW Hamburg. We founded the group to work through HAW Hamburg's history.

During the fascist period, universities and their predecessor organisations often played a dishonourable role by hurriedly adhering to the regime. This was not the case for everyone, however. There was also resistance, which we can learn from today. Academia can never again be allowed to take part in war, crimes that violate human rights, or their legitimation. Through events, memorials and readings we aim to honour the historical resistance and advocate for a democratic society.

The KontraBar is a hard-won student-run space. Unfortunately, there are far too few such rooms at HAW Hamburg. In 2013, the shortage of student-run spaces led to the occupation of the music room, as the previous student space was neither large enough nor accessible. Through discussions with the department management and the dean, students were able to obtain an alternative room.

The KontraBar was opened in room 0.15 and has since been a lively location that is continually being developed. Through the creation of the KontraBar, we have created a space for political, societal and subject-related exchange and networking: student council meetings, club meetings, reading groups, film evenings, banner-painting actions and bar evenings are currently held there.

The room can be used by anyone who is interested and is also open during seminar periods. Everyone is cordially invited to participate in organising and shaping how the space is used!

The Peace Studies Working Group is a cross-faculty group working for a peace that is more than just the absence of war. Because with its various degree courses, the HAW Hamburg has significant potential in this regard, and this potential can be increased even further if we work together across subjects and disciplines.

International academic collaborations connect countries and people, contribute to international understanding and help counter stereotypes. They should be expanded to include all countries. We need everyone to work on solving the big issues facing humanity, as outlined in the UN's 17 SDGs – for example, ending hunger, ending poverty, overcoming illiteracy, access to good healthcare worldwide, and real solutions to address climate change.
