International studies - training in technology, clinics and business management. In addition to professional, you also acquire methodological and personal competence in the European environment.

Our students acquire practice based engineering and research skills which enable them to participate in the development and improvement of technical and organizational health care solutions. The programme stresses inter-professional collaboration (e.g. interacting with physicians, nurses, therapists and technicians). The degree "Master of Science" qualifies for positions in research and development and delivers skills required for scientific work up to postgraduate programs (e.g. PhD, Promotion).

The European Master programme in Medical Technology and Healthcare Business targets graduates with a degree in medical technology, biomedical engineering, rescue engineering or harzard control (or in a related discipline). Applicants should be motivated to acquire skills relevant for mastering cutting-edge biomedical devices in different application contexts and conducting research and development.

One master course at three univercities in three countries.

Germany - Hamburg University of Applied Sciences Faculty of Life Sciences
France - Lille Université de Lille II - Faculté Ingénierie et Management de la Santé (ILIS)
Portugal - Porto Escola Superior de Tecnologia da Saúde do Porto (IPP)

The first semester deals with the technology training and takes place in Hamburg. The core curriculum consists of the following modules:Project Seminar in Engineering, Data AcquisiPon and Processing, Advanced Biosignal Processing, Modelling Medical Systems, SimulaPon and Virtual Reality in Medicine and HTA /Regulatory Affairs.

In the second semester, the training in clinical application for the application of technical know-how takes place in Porto. The core curriculum consists of the following modules:Project Seminar in
Health, Medical Imaging Technologies and Devices, Medical Measurement Techniques, Applied Clinical
Imaging, Applied Clinical Signals and Human-Technology InteracPon on Clinical Environment.

The 3rd semester offers the business background and takes place in Lille. The core curriculum consists of the following modules:Project Seminar in Healthcare Business, Principles of Marketing in the Healthcare Business, International Healthcare Marketing and Business, Marketing for Innovative Medical Technology, Legal and regulatory considerations in the HealthCare Industry and Industrial
Purchasing, Outsourcing in the Healthcare Industry.

In the fourth semester, the study is finished with a master thesis in which the student shall demonstrate achieved competence in research and development preferably in interdisciplinary settings. The place and the advice is freely selectable.

All courses and examinations are held in English only.

  • First degree as Bachelor (in related disciplines) qualifying for a professional career or a comparable course of studies of at least three years or a Diploma of a university (minimum grade 2.5).
  • German for international applicants. Certificate of attendance in German of at least 200 hours.
  • Knowledge of English language proven by Abitur – or Fachhochschulzeugnis (s. Auswahlordnung) or accepted certificates: TOEFL-test (at least 87 points internet-based), IELTS (minimum Band 5.5) or CAE, CPE, FCE (minimum C) or certificates about good performance in foreign countries.
  • Applicants holding a first academic degree (bachelor, diploma etc.) from non-EU-countries are required to take the Graduate Record Examination (GRE); further information at www.gre.org.
  • Curriculum vitae.
  • Statement of motivation.
  • Letter of recommendation from a university professor (optional)
    In case the final grade is worse than 2.5 it might be compensated by a proof of exceptional professional work.

Application periods: 1st June - 15th July.
