The workshop is designed for intermediate as well as advanced users of English who wish to improve their skills in academic correspondence. The workshop is divided into a review of best practices, as well as practical exercises done individually and in pairs or groups. The course includes fine-tuning of E-Mails including the establishing initial contact, differences in writing styles in different cultures, formality levels, strategies for polite requests, formulating precise enquiries and optimising content for maximum clarity, coherence and conciseness.
Leitung: Marek Herter
Marek Herter is a lecturer for technical and academic English with degrees in English Philology and Computer Engineering. He has collected more than two decades of corporate and academic English teaching experience in Europe and Asia including as a trainer in aviation, information technology, medical, defence, automotive, banking, energy and maritime industries. He is a technical translator and proof-reader as well as a former interpreter for public events. He has offered Academic English workshops at the HAW for PhD candidates / postdocs since 2019.
