Round-Table on Tourism and Climate Change: Reducing the Impacts of the Tourism Sector to the World´s Climate, as a parallel event to COP 28

Do, 07.12.2023, 13:00 – 17:00 Uhr
Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The tourism sector is vital to the economy of most countries in the world. Climate change is impacting tourism in a variety of ways. These impacts are becoming particularly conspicuous across the  seasons, with summers characterised by high temperatures and shorter winter  seasons, with little snow. Also, extreme events such as droughts, floods and forest fires are negatively influencing the flows of tourists. There is a pressing need to better understand how climate change impacts tourism, and to identify ways to cope with these impacts.

It is against this background that  the round table  “Tourism and Climate Change:  Reducing the Impacts of the Tourism Sector to the World´s Climate”,  is being organised. The event will introduce current trends related to climate change and tourism, discuss current initiatives and debate various ways to address them.

The round-table is organised by the Research and Transfer Centre “Sustainable Development and Climate Change Management” (FTZ-NK) at the Hamburg University of Applied Sciences, Germany,  Manchester Metropolitan University, UK and the University of Dubai. It is being organised as a parallel event to COP28, which is being held in Dubai.
